Loch Cuaich from Beinn an Aodainn

A friend and I took advantage of a fine weather forecast to head in from Loch Cuaich (Quoich) on the Kinlochourn road to bivvy on the Corbett Beinn an Aodainn (Ben Aden). We’d been at the base of the hill before, just a few weeks prior, after climbing another Corbett Sgùrr nan Eugallt (and a Graham Slat Bheinn) but a lack of energy from the heat and the time it would take us to climb the hill and walk out caused us to bail, as we had an appointment to meet with others. The best option we felt therefore was to simply walk all the way back in again, a decision I’m glad we made because if we hadn’t I wouldn’t have made this photograph. For my friend it was his fourth last Corbett and I needed a Munro nearby so we joined the two together on a classic Knoydart expedition that easily brought to life for us a common term for the area, which is popularly known to Scottish hillwalkers as the ‘Rough Bounds’.
