Mountain landscape - Scotland

Buachaille Etive Mòr 5.46am

Buachaille Etive Mòr, or the ‘Great Herdsman of the Etive’, is a fine mountain that guards the entrance to Glen Etive and Glen Coe in the West Highlands of Scotland. Its highest peak, the Munro Stob Dearg, offers great views over the wide expanse of Rannoch Moor.

Like many a photographer before me, this photograph is the result of a tent pitched on the Corbett, Beinn A’Chrulaiste, and a wait until dawn. I’d give myself therefore 10/10 for the lack of originality in my choice of location but I was very happy with the result (especially so with the prominence of the large rock pinnacle known as Crowberry Tower, which is where the popular Grade 3 scramble Curved Ridge finishes, just before the summit of Stob Dearg, and with the detail in Coire nan Tulaich on the right, which is the common hillwalker’s route of ascent).
